Abstract

The main objective of this community service is to explore and evaluate the effectiveness of educational strategies at the Pulmonary Clinic, RSUD Kota Mataram, in increasing awareness and understanding of pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) among outpatient patients. The background underlying this research is the global health issue caused by TB, an infectious disease that can be potentially fatal if not properly addressed. With a high prevalence, especially in developing countries like Indonesia, and support from the World Health Organization (WHO), effective educational interventions are needed to raise public awareness. The method used in this community service includes interactive counseling utilizing PowerPoint presentations that contain basic information and visuals related to TB, as well as the distribution of educational brochures. Education is provided at the Outpatient Pulmonary Clinic with the aim of creating a participatory discussion environment and encouraging active patient involvement. The results of community service show a significant increase in participants' awareness and understanding of TB. There has been a positive change in attitudes towards smoking habits and physical activity, as well as the emergence of initiatives for community discussion groups focusing on lung health. These findings indicate that visual-based educational materials strengthen understanding and the strategic role of community groups in promoting healthy behaviors. The conclusion of the interactive and participatory educational approach at the Pulmonary Clinic is that it is effective in changing behavior and increasing lung health awareness at the community level. This program impacts individual understanding and encourages the formation of social support networks that play a role in adopting healthy lifestyles, as well as providing evidence of the importance of the sustainability of similar programs in reducing TB cases.
